Meter Replacement Program
Indio Water Authority is currently in the process of implementing a complete change out of all water meters in the system. The meter replacement program will:
1) Upgrade our existing meters to new & efficient meters
2) Implement a state of the art automated meter reading (AMR) system
3) Provide 100% accurate meter reading
4) Deliver improved customer service

Q: Why must my meter be replaced?
A: The main reason is efficiency. Also, water meters, like any device with moving parts, eventually wear out and need to be replaced periodically.
Q: Will my water bill increase?
A: Your water rate will not change and there is no charge for the replacement of the meter; however, the accuracy of the new meter is factory tested and guaranteed to operate with American Water Works Association (AWWA) of standards for accuracy. Conservation is the best way to limit any increase you may have. The older meters tend to run slower and may not be as accurate in calculating consumption. Q: Will my water service be interrupted during the installation?
A: Yes. There will be a temporary interruption while the meter is being replaced- typically about 15-45 minutes.
Q: Do I need to be home for the meter replacement?
A: No, and appointments are not needed for the work to be done. The installer will check to see if anyone is home before replacing the meter.
